Tips On Choosing Rugs For A Childs Room

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

If it is time to begin shopping for styles and colors in area rugs to compliment the style and design of your child’s bedroom or playroom, there are a few things that you might want to consider before you plan your rug shopping trip.

Step 1: Decide the size rugs that most compliment the area you have to work with. If you are working with a large open space, you might consider using one of the larger size rugs. For a smaller area, you will want to stick to either a small or medium size rug to get that perfect look you are wanting to achieve.

Step 2: Set a price range that you are able to stick within. You will find a large assortment of rugs that are made using a large variety of quality materials, each offering a different price range. You will find rugs ranging from the most elaborate in oriental styles that can become very expensive. Or, you might want to choose a less expensive style that is made from synthetic materials. This style of course will come with a much lower price tag.

Step 3: Consider the color range you have to work with. When placing decorative rugs in a child’s room, you will want to choose colors that will most compliment the furniture, bedding, and window treatments that are in the room.

Step 4: Have fun! This is possibly the most important step when you begin choosing rugs that will add that special touch in fun and exciting designs to the décor of your child’s bedroom, study, or playroom.

Have You Considered An Area Rug?

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Have you been pondering the thought of having your carpet re-done, is it so stained that is it just beyond repair? If you’re ready to get new carpet for your home, but you just cant afford re-carpeting your entire home and you need to hide those toddler stains, or stains from years of walking that have caused a dark line, then a rug is the easy and cheap way to go, and the best part is that it works. No one will know there’s a huge coffee or paint stain below your new area rug.

If you have a light colored carpet in your living room, by your front door, or any other high traffic area, then perhaps a runner would be of great use to you. A runner is a long but narrow rug that is perfect for areas that get walked on a lot. For example, you could use a runner that leads from your front door to your living room or dining room. This way the dirt on everyone’s shoes from outside doesn’t get tracked permanently onto your carpet, but instead on the rug.

Another type of rug you might want to get, to keep your new carpet from getting stained, or to hide stains on your old rug would be an area rug. These rugs are large square or rectangular rugs that you can put in the center of your living room, or possibly even under your kitchen table to catch all those little chunks of food so they don’t get mashed into your beautiful carpet, or to hide previous food stains, and prevent new ones.

Rugs can help in many different aspects, for example, if you like gardening and you spend hours outside each evening in your garden, you need a rug by your back door. Having a rug by your back door makes it possible for you to wipe your shoes off before walking through the house and leaving dirt particles in the carpet and in the future having a dark trail from your back door through the house.

It’s time to bring your carpets back to life. Have you considered an area rug?

Achieving The Desired Results When Choosing An Area Rug Is Important

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Decorating any room of your home or office can be fun, exciting, and very rewarding. This can be especially true when you are choosing area rugs to accentuate the color and design of any particular room you have in mind.

Consider these tips when you are planning to use an area rug to add that extra touch in design to the décor of any room. Achieving the desired results when you are choosing an area rug is important.

  1. You will need to take into consideration the amount of space you have to work with. If you will be placing an area rug in a wide-open spaced room, then a large area rug may be the answer. However, if the space you are working with is small to medium in size, you may need to choose a smaller size area rug.
  2. Consider the amount of traffic that will be placed on the rug. If the area you have to work with does not get a tremendous amount of traffic, then one of the more elaborate oriental rugs may be the type in style that will give that perfect added touch to the décor of your room. If the area will have a large amount of traffic, then your best bet might be in choosing one of the less expensive materials.
  3. You should also consider the amount of traffic of a room when you choose the length of the fibers in the rug. The longer shag type rugs aren’t nearly as easy to clean as the rugs that have a shorter fiber style.
  4. Carefully consider the colors in the furniture, window treatments, and other decorative items in the room. The choice you make in an area rug will need to compliment the style and color of each of these.

5. If you want to achieve the look of a larger size room, one of the many styles in lighter colored area rugs can be perfect for making a room appear to be larger than they actually are.

Measuring For Wallpaper Can Be Simple

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Style is something that can change very frequently. If you are one who likes staying on top of new styles not only with your wardrobe, but your home décor as well, measuring for wallpaper does not have to be a hard talk. There are so many beautiful styles that are available today, to match the décor of any room in your house. Measuring for wallpaper can be simple when following these steps.

These simple steps will have you on top of the game in no time.

  • Items that you will need:
  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape
  • Paper
  • Calculator

Step 1. Using the pencil and piece of paper, draw a diagram of the area where you will be wallpapering.

Step 2. Calculate the perimeter of the area(say bathroom) that you plan to wallpaper. You can do this by measuring each wall length, then add each measurement together.

Step 3. Now you need to measure the height off the walls.

Step 4. Calculate the square footage of the room that you will be wallpapering. You can do this by multiplying the perimeter by the height.

Step 5. Now you need to determine how many rolls of wallpaper the project will require. Since one roll of wallpaper will paper approximately a 25 square foot area, you will divide the figure you came up with for the square footage of your area by 25, and this will give you a rough estimate of how many rolls of wallpaper you will be needing.

Don’t make your project a frustrating one, measuring for wallpaper can be simple.
